Meet the Administrators

Mr. Webb, the principal, wearing a suit and tie against a textured background.

Families of Cardinal Nation,

I am humbled and honored to have been selected to serve as Principal of East Wilkes High School. As a resident of our community, it is my honor to serve the students and families of the east district. There is a long history of excellence at East High and I am determined to continue that tradition of excellence. It is my belief that all students can succeed. When we partner together and focus on the good of our students there is no limit to what they can achieve.

As we return this fall to a new school year we look to welcome students to campus and begin the immediate work of honoring our traditions and living up to our school’s history of excellence. I invite each family to join us as partners in your child's education and future. Together, I know we can help our Cardinals soar to new heights.

I look forward to a great year for Cardinal Nation! If I can ever be of assistance to your student or family, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Respectfully,

Dustin C. Webb

Students, Families, and Staff of Cardinal Country,

I am truly honored to serve as the Assistant Principal at East Wilkes High School. With over 25 years in education—including 10 years in school administration—I’m excited to contribute to the continued tradition of academic excellence here at East Wilkes.

I am deeply committed to fostering a supportive, inclusive environment where all students can thrive. I believe that strong relationships among students, families, and staff are the foundation of a positive, collaborative school culture. When students are provided with support, engaging instruction, and a safe space to learn, they are empowered to reach their full potential. One of my favorite quotes by Josh Shipp reflects this belief: “Every child is one caring adult away from a success story.” I strive to be that caring adult for every student who walks through our doors.

I hold a Master’s degree in School Administration from Appalachian State University, where I also earned my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to teach in both traditional and alternative school settings, and to serve in leadership roles at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Most recently, I worked as the Program Manager for BEST Academy in Wilkes County Schools.

In 2022, I stepped away from administration to support my family during the adoption of our infant great-niece, who is now starting kindergarten. Our oldest daughter is entering her second year at UNCG, studying genetic counseling. My husband serves as a high school counselor in Caldwell County, where we reside. Outside of school, I enjoy spending quality time with my family—whether it's game nights with snacks, movie marathons, or trips to the beach.

I’m excited to return to school leadership and to partner with Mr. Webb and the entire East Wilkes community. My door is always open, and I welcome your thoughts, questions, and ideas. Together, we will make this year—and the years to come—truly exceptional for our students.

Respectfully,
Kelly Smith
