Meet the Administrators

Principal - Dr. Chad L. Mann

Chad Mann

Hello Cardinal Nation!

I am excited to be the principal of East Wilkes High School! I have served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and principal for my 19 years in education. I graduated from North Carolina A&T State University in 2000 with a degree in Business Education. I completed my master’s degree in School Administration in 2003. I recently completed my doctoral degree in 2018. Both degrees were completed at Gardner-Webb University.

I began teaching at Forbush High School in 2000. I taught there for two years before moving to Starmount High School for the next six years. I was a business teacher at both schools.

I began my administrative career in the Wilkes County Schools in 2009. I served as the assistant principal of Central Wilkes Middle School from 2009 to 2011. I was then named the assistant principal of Wilkes Central High School where I spent the next three years.

I was named the principal of CB Eller Elementary School in 2014. The time at the elementary school helped me become the leader that I am today. In June of 2018, I was named the principal at East Wilkes High School. It was a dream come true! I knew that one day I wanted to be a high school principal.

I am the proud father of two boys, La’Bren, 9 and Campion 3. Those two boys light up my life! I love being a father!  I enjoy coaching youth sports. My passion is to give back through sports and other mentoring opportunities to the youth.  I am a member of The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated.

I look forward to serving the students, staff, and families of the East Wilkes Community!

Assistant Principal - Mrs. Danielle Dowell

Welcome to our page! I have the honor of being the Assistant Principal at this amazing school. My name is Danielle Dowell, and this is my fourth year serving the students and families of East Wilkes High School. I started my journey in education at East Wilkes High School as a student! This is home to me, and when I found that I would have the opportunity to return and be a part of this great school again, I cried. I was so excited!  I knew that I wanted to be a teacher when I was in high school here. Without some of these teachers, I feel certain that my life would be very different. It was this realization that led me to strive to be someone’s “teacher hero”.

After I graduated from East, I attended Wilkes Community College for 2 years then transferred to Appalachian State University where I earned a B.S. in Middle Grades Education and a minor in History and English. I started teaching at East Wilkes Middle School as an ELA/SS teacher. Teaching and advocating for students has always been a passion of mine and after a few years, I felt called to serve the students of Wilkes County Schools in a leadership capacity. Teaching teachers and advocating for students on a broader level. I decided to work toward becoming a principal and earned my M.A. in Educational Leadership from Gardner-Webb University. Since then I have been an assistant principal for seven years serving three elementary schools and now East High.

I have an amazing husband who will forever be a Cardinal. He sacrifices so that I can give 100% for the students of East Wilkes. Together, we have three beautiful children who attend schools in the East district. As a family, we love sports! When I am not here, chances are you can find me on the sideline, in a gym, or on a field somewhere cheering on my kids. When I have a few moments to myself, my most favorite things to do (besides spending time with family) are reading, watching movies and being in nature.

I believe that education is important, but the most important thing that we can learn is to treat each other with kindness. Life can be hard, but lessons are never learned without challenges, and it's those challenges in life that can help us find our purpose. East Wilkes has teachers and staff who truly care about our community, families, and most importantly, students. Together we can continue to help the students at East Wilkes find their purpose and reach their dreams. I am blessed to be a part of this family! I will forever be a Cardinal!
